Caring for Your Waterproof Cast:

1.

Initial Tightness: Your cast may feel tight initially but will loosen over 2 to 3 days as padding compresses and your limb settles.

2.

Monitoring: Watch for signs of tightness and unusual sensations like pins and needles or skin discolouration.  Elevate your limb to reduce swelling, Persistent symptoms require immediate attention.  Please see a GP or emergency department to assist and inform the clinic

3.

Avoid Putting things down your cast: Refrain from inserting objects into the cast to scratch itching as it can damage skin and increase infection risk.

4.

Water Exposure: Waterproof casts can get wet. Afterward, ensure proper drainage by hanging your arm down or placing toes on the ground. Use a hairdryer or fan to dry the cast thoroughly.

5.

Contact Information: For concerns, reach out to our Fracture Care Clinic during work hours. Outside these hours, seek help from your local emergency department.
